Stray Feather

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I was checking the bird feeders this morning and spotted a bright blob off in the grass. It turned out to be this feather. I don’t know the species for sure but suspect a Kestrel or Barn Owl. I photographed it from both sides but preferred the results of this one because I missed seeing a bright out of focus grass stem in the background from the other side. I would have liked to do a stack but this was moving around in a very gentle breeze.

Specific Feedback

It seemed to me that I needed to leave the curved grass leaf in rather than have it exiting the top or trying to remove it. Opinions?

Dennis, I really like this. So glad you spotted it and checked it out. The dew drops and the web add to the feather nicely. For me, the curved grass needs to stay as it holds some of the web that is helping hold the feather. I also like that it points to the feather. The BG just makes it all stand out nicely. I can’t think of anything to improve it nor can I help you ID the bird the feather belongs to. Well seen and captured.
