Sunset After Snow

About This Image

This is sunset looking South from Paradise Valley after the first major snow of the fall. The tallest peak is Sheep Mountain (one of several in the area…) while the linear ridge to it’s left is Lumpy Ridge (lives up to its name). This is a 1.5 shot pano because the single shot views either included too much sky and foreground or not enough of the snowy mountains for my taste.

Feedback Requested

I like the framing with ridges sloping in from both the right and left. I very much like the contrast between the sharp snowy mountains and the soft, warmth of the clouds in the sky.

This is gorgeous, Mark. I like the composition with the framing from the ridges descending toward the middle, but the coolest thing is the faint blush from the sky reflected from the snow.

What a wonderful landscape this is! I love the lines and curves of various ridges. The soft light and tht gorgeous sky work nicely, as well.

Not a nit, but I am wondering how it would look if the blue in the landscape was reduced a bit so that the slight pink blush would be more evident.

Either way, Mark, this is a fine mountain scene nicely framed and processed.

Mark, I’ve not commented since some of the site changes and hope I’m using the right posting link here. This image is stunning. The cloud formation colors and structures are excellent. After many fine images you’ve posted over the years I’d place this one at the top of that long list.

If there was any thought for another look maybe a slight crop in from the left just passed the small dark hump there. Not nits at all just a thought.

Hi Mark,

Wonderful view of these mountains, their zig zag across the frame, and those magical clouds. I especially like the layers of clouds: dark puffy in front of that smooth pink, with that clear sky in the upper right behind the gray wisps. The texture and color palette of the mountain itself beautifully complement the sky (or vice versa).

Nicely done,

ML

Hi Paul, it’s good to see you back around the campfire!

Sweet. Everything comes together here. The subject, the composition, the colors, the pano format and the processing. The blues and pinks together shine. I don’t have any suggestions to improve it.

Hi Mark,

I am loving the pano format as well as the combination of warm and cool tones in this wonderful scene. The pinks and the blues in the sky are particularly striking; this had to be wonderful to view as the scene unfolded before you. No suggestions from me as this is beautifully done.

@Paul_Breitkreuz , Hey Paul, it’s great to see you participating again. Looking forward to some views from JTNP.

@Preston_Birdwell, I’ve already reduced the blues in the land significantly. I’m not picking up the pinks…guess they’re too subtle for my eyes…

Great capture Mark! Excellent work on the exposure between the sky and mountains. The only thing I may suggest is a crop of about 1/4 off the left side. To my eye the very left part of the image doesn’t hold as much interest as the rest of image and the image seems weighted a little to the right. The middle ground diagonal ridge is a great leading line into the image. Beautiful work!
