Description
Taken from bluffs above Crystal Cove Sate Park in Southern California. Wanted to capture flight of a bird with crashing surf as a background. Specifically wanted a panning shot to blur the wings of the bird and soften the surf

Well done, Ted. I like this a lot. Good sense of motion. A pleasing color palette. Good job on panning to get the head sharp and the wings blurred.
I love what your panning did for the surf background, Ted. I like the gull as well, but I do find myself a little bothered by the way the pan of the near wing puts that curve over the face of the gull. I don’t know why it bothers me, but it does. I think your setting were about perfect for the conditions and to get the right amount of blur.
Great comment and I honestly hadn’t noticed that before.
Really nice treatment of the surf in this image which adds another point of interest with the bird. I like the subject placement in the frame. I can appreciate Dennis’ comment on the blur over the face. I still find this a quite well done image with significant impact.
