I’ve been going through my archives and stirring the cobwebs between my ears. On our trip to the Tetons and Yellowstone in 2011 we stayed a few days at Jenny Lake (near the top of my list of favorite campgrounds) but I found String Lake at dawn to be more interesting. Perfect calm conditions made this a very enjoyable morning. >=))>

I generally try to avoid putting the horizon lines of reflections in the center of the frame but this seemed to work in this instance. Your thoughts?
Bill, I can see why you found String Lake interesting. The reflection is amazing. It’s about as perfect as it gets. I love your comp, and placing the horizon line in the center was a good choice. You captured excellent detail throughout the image and I like the warm tones. This may sound weird but the greens of the trees along with their perfect reflection, to me, looks very much like a giant bug - maybe a beetle. Very cool! Well seen and captured!
Bill, I think that the perfection of the reflection (say that fast 3 times…) fits very well with the overall symmetry in making this somewhat abstract. I do think that processing for a bit more contrast and a slight reduction in brightness for the bright area slightly right of center would be good. Yes, @Steve_Kennedy, I see the big bug with those great pincers…
Works well here Bill. “Rules” are better said “Guidelines” when it comes to photography, and sometimes tossing them out the window works very well. I didn’t see the bug until @Steve_Kennedy pointed it out, but now I keep thinking “head louse.”
This may have a magenta tint, and you might play with shifting it a bit more green.
Yep, definitely a scorpion-like bug, which might even be viewed rotated 90 deg left for fun. I love this, and would just suggest you remove the blue spot along the lower border, left oF center.
I thought for sure I commented… apparently not! I’ve certainly reviewed and admired this “reflectionscape”. Wow, talk about a mirrored finish! This is excellent!
The centered horizon is perfectly appropriate here. I too see the “bug”. To me more like a tick.
No suggestions really. I suppose personal taste might lead me to burning dwn the very center of the image where the pines (and their reflection) are a little bright. I think maybe even globally you could drop the luminosity by 1/2 stop, or less. Not a big deal. What a fantastic reflection; great job framing and capturing this one.
I can see why you found String Lake more interesting as that soft light along the shoreline is flat out gorgeous and you have to love that mirror like reflection. I am also loving the symmetry in this scene. Sometimes a centered horizon works and that is definitely the case for this wonderful image. Like @Lon_Overacker I am seeing a tick. My only suggestion would be slight magenta cast already mentioned by @John_Williams . Glad you stirred the cobwebs as this is beautifully done.
Rules. Guidelines. Habits. However you call them. Never forget to forget them. Especially when you capture a striking landscape as this one. Centred horizons can work very well and this is certainly the case here. I hope the bug does not distract too much from the deeper beauty of the scene and the light. Keep removing the cobwebs, please.
