Taking a Bath (Pied-Billed Grebe)

Image:

Description:

Pied-billed grebes are secretive creatures of the marsh that are rarely viewed fairly close. This guy was splashing it up pretty good fairly close to the edge of the dike. I was concealed be reeds and cattails so the grebe never me.

These little guys are always cute, and I’ve been frustrated in getting as close to them as I want. Good job on being stealthy. The ripples accentuate the action – well captured! I wonder about pulling down the highlights just a little? (And maybe Shadows up to compensate.) Hard to be sure but it feels that it needs just a bit of CW rotation, from the ripples.)

Good job getting fairly close to this one, Jim. It’s interesting that it’s sitting so high in the water. I usually see them much lower.

Hi Jim
What the saying " you can’t compete with children or babies". The eye contact, feather detail and ripples in the water are marvels. Very nice photograph.
