This is one of the more odd birds of Australia. They are not uncommon, but nearly impossible to see. Our guide knew where a nesting pair hung out, but I still couldn’t see this guy until he opened his eyes.

Nice shot, Sandy. Del had one of these for us (in the suburbs), but it never opened its eyes and was half hidden, so I didn’t get anything better than a record shot. The dark background you got here is quite appropriate for a nocturnal bird. Detail is excellent.
