Tern, Tern

Lady Elliot Island is a very small island on the southernmost part of the Great Barrier Reef. The island hosts huge colonies of thousands of breeding birds. They visit the island solely to nest and raise their young between September and March each year. I was lucky to be there in December when the Bridled Terns were courting. What a display!

The background was a little distracting so I tried a Topaz “chalk” filter over the background to try to smooth it out.

Basic ACR adjustments including Shadows lifted and Highlights reduced. Blacks pushed a little to the left. In PS, a lot of OOF foreground removed and “Chalk” treatment applied.

Beautiful birds in a very interesting pose, with gorgeous light and setting! It’s wonderful that you got so close and with such a low perspective. The BG treatment is lovely!
