Self Critique

The interaction of the Great Blue Heron and the Osprey with the fish flying by is one you would never capture without a fast frame rate. The river is busy in this area but I like the GBH in the background making a type of gauntlet for the Osprey to fly through.

Creative direction

Interaction between different bird species going for the same type of fish.

Specific Feedback

Does the second GBH work here ?

Description

The annual shad run is a great photographic opportunity as numerous types of birds descend on the river to go fishing. It is nearby so I can go numerous times a season. There is a third GBH standing on the top of the logs on the upper left corner but I cut him out in this version.

A very interesting scene, Andrew. You have excellent focus on the osprey and as you noted the heron in the background adds another interesting element. This looks like a nice location for photography.

I’ve photographed many Osprey with fish, Andrew, but never anything like this, showing so much of the environment and such a low level and fairly close. Well done! Good detail in the Osprey and it seems to be eyeing the heron and I like the pose/expression of the heron. I’d say the heron in the background adds to the image.

Hi Andrew, what an interesting scene and very well captured. I think the distant heron adds interest to the image. Really great interaction and behavior shown. Nice job is catching this.
