The Common Robin

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Though common, they make nice subjects as they’re an attractive, fairly good sized bird, that isn’t too flighty. As they are fairly cooperative, I’m able to work the composition to where I’m getting a nice background.

Specific Feedback

Any thoughts appreciated.

Common is just fine! So is cooperative. Nice catches showing a variety of environments with good detail and nice light. Something looks odd about the beak in the first one, or had it just been digging in the mud?

A fine series of Robin Images, Allen. I think my favorite is the second followed closely by the first. The rather awkward perch with the out of focus branch coming at the viewer in the third makes it difficult.

Thanks @Diane_Miller and @Dennis_Plank . I checked out the beak and I found images where the beak looks like that in females or immature males.

Allen, I grew up with Robins in our backyard all the time, so I’ve gotten a bit jaded and tend to not photograph them. Clearly I need to rethink that. These are terrific shots. The last one is my favorite. Well done.

Nice series of images here Allen. I particularly like the one with the Robin holding a berry in its beak. I’ve been seeing some in my backyard recently, as groups of them pay a visit at times. As you have said, they do tend to hang around a bit longer than other birds, which allows me to capture some images here and there.

Hi Allen
This series of photographs, answer the question I often get, what are you going out to photograph and the answer if always, what nature gives me. Nice work with are backyard Robins.
