The Green, Green Grasshopper of Home

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

On a very hot afternoon about 2 weeks ago this grasshopper was basking in a plant on some local scrubland. It was about 1.5 inches long.

Specific Feedback

I cropped in very close as I wanted to concentrate on the colors and structure of the insect (note the 6 toes). Is the composition to your liking?

Technical Details

OM-1 + 60mm macro 1/250 f2.8 ISO 200 ; stacked in Zerene.

Tonalities adjusted in LR and PS. Removed a couple of pieces of vegetation; cropped.

Wow you can see every tiny detail! Bravo! Looks like a youngster that hasn’t grown its wings yet. I like how awkwardly it appears ot be clutching the plant. So bright and those eye stripes are impressive. Comp looks good to me. What a fantastic little critter.

What a little fasion plate. This little grasshopper clearly never got the memo about “less is more.” The vibrant green suit, red compound eyes complete with racing stripes and orange brown leg tips; he’s really working the triadic colour scheme.

You’ve captured him so well with every little detail showing. Wonderful image!

Mike, the details in this hopper really pop. I do find myself wishing for a bit more room at the left and top, but don’t know what might be lurking just outside the frame… The various green tones make a harmonious view.

Hi Mike, this is a cute little hopper. Your stack looks pretty good with minimal artifacts. The midleg tarsi have some, but you really need to look for them to actually notice them. You can increase shadows slightly to enhance the feeling of depth in the image and add extra space to the top and LH side for a stronger comp. The BG goes well with this bright green hopper. A good job on this capture which resulted in a very pleasing image…Jim
