Description
This grasshopper kindly stopped for a brief time on a rock and posed long enough for me to capture an image. I was able to align the focal plane of my camera parallel to the subject, allowing me to capture its entire body sharp and in focus. I used a telephoto lens from a short distance away so as not to disturb it and have it fly away.

Ted: Excellent use of your long lens to capture this guy. As noted your plane of focus management has rendered it really sharp throughout and left a very pleasing BG. I also like how it blends into the rock. Nicely seen and superbly captured. >=))>
Excellent details present with very difficult lighting. Highlights are very bright, but they seem to work fine in this image. Grasshoppers have a lot of character and you captured it very well with the telephoto…Jim
Neat find and great to have the time to line up the focal plane, too. These guys are skittish! Blends into that environment so well. Such excellent textures - sometimes harsh light can be your friend. I’d really like to have the whole shadow in the shot and I might give him a flip horizontally, too. Just a couple ideas.
Ted, you’ve caught this grasshopper well, with sharpness throughout the body. The crop makes a fine portrait, but feels tight to me. The color match with its perch works well.
