This is a book that I found to be immensely valuable to my photography. Yet it’s not about photography at all. Ostensibly it is about the brain and how it works. But that is not its value to us as photographers. It’s more about perception. How we see and absorb what we see. There is a lot of writing these days about being still and becoming ‘one with the subject’. But what is actually occurring is activating a part of the mind that remains largely unused these days. The author argues that this wasn’t always the case in human history. The value to us photographers is in recognizing the aspects of mindfulness that leads you to a good image. And perhaps more importantly, a fulfilling image. I have found this book to be invaluable in doing that.
