This is an oldie from 2016. I was reprocessing another image from a huge series this bird gave me one day and ran across this one that I hadn’t worked on before. The juvenile Cooper’s Hawk was doing lots of stretching and preening because it was raining off and on.

Canon 7DII, Sigma 150-600 C @ 484 mm, f/8, 1/400, iso 800, aperture priority. Processed in LR & PS CC. Cropped from a horizontal original to a 2245x3087 vertical. The upper part of the background was painted over because it was a very dark black/green combination that did not work with the rest of the image. Taken at 1:08 pm on August 8, 2016. This bird was in and out of the yard all that day, rain and shine.
You found a little jewel in the treasure chest Dennis. Very nice. I like that pose. And the bg worked out very well. I might have a look at cropping out the bit of bg at the bottom. It does draw my attention and there is nothing to see. Another option might be to fill the space up with more of the plank. Lovely colors. Earth tones.
You caught a nice pose and the detail is good. Nice complementary background. Fine as presented, but I could also see a crop about 1/4 way up the perch.
@David_Leroy and @Allen_Brooks Hi guys. The reason I didn’t crop up into the perch is because if you look closely, you’ll see just the tip of a tail feather sticking out the bottom. Probably not a really good reason as I suspect no one would notice.
Dennis, I can only see one thing wrong with this image…it isn’t mine!!! Wow, I am envious of this shot. I always like face on shots of birds, where you can see both eyes, so that right there makes it special to me. But the stretch, and the background, the wonderful details in the hawk, all makes this shot really an excellent shot.
I’m glad that you posted this one. Nice details and a killer background too. You could crop some off the bottom, but comp is good enough without the crop. Awesome…Jim
