Description
This is where Kayaker’s running Great Falls on the Potomac enter the Maryland side of the falls. It’s called The Pummel as the kayaker’s fly over the ledge near the URC and then must avoid the big rock in the middle of the river. After a very cold (for this area) week I went to see how much ice there was. Clearly some, but not as much as I expected. When the Potomac is cold, it takes on the greenish color that you see here in the lower part. At particular times of the day and year, rainbows appear in the mist thrown up by the river (near top center)
Specific Feedback
I shoot this with a polarizer and a 4 stop ND filter. That slows the shutter down to where there’s smoothing of the flow, but still lots of texture.

It has been years since I last visited Great Falls, but this makes me want to go back some time. I like the way you composed this with the water flowing in from both the upper corners of the fame and exiting from both lower corners.; kind of like an X. I am also loving the aquamarine color of the water. Do they kayak this time of the year? Anyway, really nice image.

I really like the composition and your use of both the polarizer and nd filter. Colors are great. My only small critique is maybe for just a tad more texture in the large cascades of the Pummel. I tried, but my PS skills are lacking and just mudded it up.
Makes me cold looking at this scene even though there’s lots of light. There is so much texture in this image. The rocks are sharp and jagged and I love the colors. There are little icicles hanging off the edges of many of the rocks and how about that rainbow in the upper center of the image. Awesome. The water in the lower portion of the image has lots of texture while also having a nice flow to it. I think the upper portion of the river and falls is a little too blurred for me and I would prefer more texture but that is a totally personal thing. This looks like a tough section of the river to frame up and compose but I think you pretty much nailed it. Love the green/blue color of the water too.
