Here are a few from yesterday’s time with this hawk. His right foot is on the vole.

Here’s where I found him – he doesn’t seem to like natural perches.

Then protecting his prize.

And 45 minutes later, finishing his meal.

Canon R5, 100-500 at mostly 500, various crops, at least 50%.

All of these are cracker shots Diane! I know you would have liked a better perch, but you got everything else.

These are amazing!! I especially love the protecting shot. That wing! So great. You had some really special moments here. I don’t envy the vole, but that’s how nature is.

Wow, Diane, time to get out the tripod AND change battery - it was your lucky day. My favourite is the top one, with pale BG and view of prey. But they’re all great, and the one where it’s finishing the meal (looking like it’s had more than enough vole for this year!) made me laugh.
