The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I went down to the beach at the end of the day today, and watched the waves come and go on the sand. This is a protected spot and the waves are very small, so it is all happening in a very small zone. I wanted to capture the late day light and the shapes that appear and then immediately disappear as the water comes and goes, all day, all night, all the time.

Specific Feedback

The depth of field is intentionally shallow, but perhaps too shallow for some tastes, What do you think?

How about composition? I tried to get a sense of movement, but perhaps it’s not enough.

Technical Details

Nikon D7500, lens 18-300mm f3/5-6.3
ISO 100, 350mm, f/9, 1/640sec
Minimal enhancement of brightness and color, but this is very close to what the original looked like out of the camera.

Elizabeth, I like the gentle sweep and the golden glow in both the sand and the water. It’s an artistic, meditative, “day’s end” statement. The few scattered rocks establish a subtle connection to reality that adds to the feeling. I do wonder about a small crop, taking out the black at the bottom and the stone at the upper right edge.

Thank you, Mark. Yes, I can see the benefit of cropping in those two places, as those elements are a bit distracting. I tried uploading my crop but for some reason it didn’t work…

Elizabeth, to upload a revised version open your original post and click on the pencil icon. When the edit window opens, you can click on the upload icon. You can add information and/or a title. If you did those and it didn’t work, then I’m clueless about what happened…one of those mysterious computer glitches…shut down, go away for a minute or two, then come back and try again.
