About This Image

I watched this spider and beetle circle each other on the leaf. I was kind of hoping that the spider would attack the beetle so I could get to photograph the action (sorry, beetle!). But they chose to co-exist peacefully and then went their separate ways without any bloodshed. Nevertheless, this was a moment of tension when it was still not clear what the spider’s intent was.

Feedback Requested

I’d appreciate any feedback. The focus on the beetle is not as sharp as I would have liked because they were moving around, and it was difficult to maintain focus. I thought the story-telling aspect would make up for the imperfect focus. What do you think?

Canan: Good action indeed and I think the sharpness of the beetle is OK. My only suggestion would be a tighter crop to bring even more attention to the antagonists and to diminish the impact of the dark leaf shadow in the ULC. This does tell a cool story so kudos for a good find and the persistence to follow the action. >=))>

Thanks, Bill. The tighter crop is a good idea. I’ll chop off more from the top.

Oh, the suspense, Canan, that you captured here. It appears that the beetle has no idea that there is a threat in the area. He is just taking his walk like any other time. Love the spider oof in the BG. Well done!

I think your sharpness will work just fine except amongst a bunch of pixel peeping fellow photographers, Canan. I really like the juxtaposition of the beetle and the spider. The tighter crop looks definitely interesting.

Canan, the view does look dramatic, like there’s about to be an attack. I’m sure you had fun watching and waiting. It does leave you wondering why there wasn’t a battle. I think the beetle is decently sharp. The somewhat oof spider is well placed.

Thank you, Shirley. Yes, the beetle seemed quite nonchalant

Thanks, Dennis  I’ll tighten the crop even more based on Bill’s suggestion.

Thanks, Mark. Yes, it was a few minutes of very suspenseful action!

Great shot! I like Bill’s idea of a little tighter crop. It definitely tells a great story. The poor unsuspecting beetle:face_with_peeking_eye:.

Bill’s crop looks pretty good and I would decrease the strength of the highlights slightly. Otherwise, focus of the subject looks pretty good…Jim
