The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I had been at the site of the nesting merlin only a few minutes when an adult arrived bearing a bird it had caught. It landed by the other adult, and it gave the bird to it. The adult with the bird flew off and a few minutes later it arrived at the nest without the carcass and began to feed the chick. I have been photographing the nesting for about a week, every other day. It has been very satisfying to be photographing a bit of history.

Specific Feedback

This and other images have been taken at an extreme range for my 200-800mm, considering this is the sharpness, which has been enhanced acceptable? Had to lighten the shadows on the lower bird, a bit.
IS the contrast OK?

Hi John, the sharpness and DOF look good to me. Really interesting behavior you captured. The interaction between the two birds is great especially with the easily seen prey. Wish the birds weren’t behind that big branch but this is still a fine catch of the pair at work.

Allen,
Thank you for your comments. This opportunity has revived my photography.

Very cool action, John. The image quality in this one is quite good. Looks like everyone had a good day except the finch. Hopefully they’ll adopt a regular food transfer location, so you can find the absolute optimum location to shoot from. Most birds do form habits for this kind of thing.

Thank you Dennis, I hope to be able to continue shooting them as long as possible.

Thank you for your kind comments. Sort of fell into this and it has helped me to revive my photography.
John
