Has anyone had any experience with inverted ball heads? How do you rate them.
I came across a great presentation of the various tripod heads, how they work, and when they are optimal. Hope you enjoy it.

That is an outstanding review video, and I’ve watched it multiple times.
I had never used a geared tripod head, and after watching that video I purchased the economical k&f concept just to try it out and see how I liked the geared movements. I figured that even if I bought a geared inverted ball head later, I could still use the Concept at the coast and not worry so much about using a more expensive head around saltwater. After playing around with the Concept, I love the gearing. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to a non-geared head.
I don’t have any experience with an inverted bald head, but have it on my lust list and plan to purchase one in the future.
Interesting. I also have always wanted to use a geared head but never had the opportunity. I looked at the criteria he used to evaluate heads and to me the two most important are speed and portability. And that eliminates all geared heads except the Arca Swiss inverted hybrid. However that head sells for one thousand bucks.
The last head I had was the RRS R50 which weighted 2 lbs. I really didn’t like lugging that thing around. I did like its snap locking feature though.
I’m glad you found this video useful. What’s great about it is that there is a lot of content with very little talk. It just gets down to the core of the matter.
For years, I always used ball heads and always had trouble with framing accuracy, so I always had a geared head on my wish list.
A few months ago, when I was able to upgrade my photography gear, I took the opportunity to buy a Benro GD3WH Precision Geared Head.
I just wish I’d made that decision sooner, because it’s almost completely changed the way I take photos—at least the way I frame them. It’s become much simpler and more precise.
It’s a bit bulkier than the ball head I had, but I don’t even notice it’s there—even though it’s a bit heavier than the ball head I used to use—the Sirui K20.
I paid around €180 for it; if I don’t have to buy another one in a couple of years, that’s fine.
An interesting aspect of the video is that these geared heads are considered to be quite valuable—that’s important to me.
