Two Western Grebes with Fish (mating ritual part one)

Western grebes and Clark’s grebes exhibit interesting mating behavior. After finding the appropriate female, both the male and female collect fish and present them to each other. This was taken on a San Diego County reservoir in March 2021. Unfortunately, this day was cloudy. This image was taken from the shore.

Great shot David. I don’t mind the overcast light at all. Catching them both with fish is hilarious. Well done.

Way cool, David! Made special by both birds holding fish.

I can see why this is a favorite - really special to have both birds with fish at the same time and in terrific focus. A graceful pair that hopefully had a successful nesting season. Did you eventually get shots of any of the kids?

Hi David
The over cast sky helps provide a even lighting for theGrebes and the left of center framing is a nice change form move posting,
