First reaction: Lovely! I am always amazed at how life thrives where all seems lifeless.
Second, I do not see this as an abstract but more of an intimate landscape. Either way, it works very well! I do see a few bits along the edges that you might consider removing. I love the contrast between the spidery plant and the round stones and the sand makes a perfect backdrop. Color and saturation look spot-on to me.
Marylynne: Marvelous intimate scene. I like the comp with the entire plant in the frame surrounded by the stones. Hard to know where to crop scenes like this but this does work well for me. Nice find and a fine capture.>=))>
My initial reaction is how beautiful life can fill harsh landscapes, including places where it can be hard to grow! (I think your title works quite well.)
I too have images where there’s just no good answer on where to start or stop a crop, and in that case I think you just have to let chaos reign. I really don’t mind the bits of rock on the edges, but do wish that one branch wasn’t cut off by the edge on the right.
A beautiful image, Marylynne. I love the radial patterns of the plant juxtaposed with the random arrangement of beach stones. Very well seen and executed.
My reaction was - what an appealing arrangement. And that’s what strikes me about this image. The balance between rocks, sand, and plants. Good seeing on your part.
