Understated Moment

Another foggy image from St. Marks Wildlife Refuge.

The RAW image was pretty bluish. I reduced the blue a fair amount in post processing, but would like your opinion if this is still too blue.

Specific Feedback Requested

Any and all, but in particular about color - is it too blue?

Technical Details

Is this a composite: No
Fuji GFX50S w/ 45-100 @ 92mm (73mm @ 35mm equivalent)

Another beauty. I can’t decide which one I like more. The background islands really adds more to this one but I liked the color just a bit more on the previous vertical. The blue here is more greyish I think. Looks as though you had many workable subjects.

I like the triangular movement of the eye that this composition encourages. It’s not too blue for me. The blues appear more saturated in the foreground and fade towards the top giving depth to the image.

Bill,
I like this as is, the blue looks great to me. The islands in the distance give this nice depth and creates additional interest. Beautiful work on this one!

I’m late here and all said above – this is gorgeous and SO NOT too blue! I love how the reeds retain subtle color. Approximately perfect.

This is very nice, and I also like the implied triangle shape. And here’s another vote for not too blue, my preference almost always leans to liking cooler fog. The contrast of sharp vs. soft elements is very well handled here. When taken into consideration with your other post, this is a good example of how to really work a scene and get multiple great shots out of it.

Thanks @Igor_Doncov , @Nathan_Klein , @Alan_Kreyger , @Diane_Miller , @Ed_McGuirk , & @Harley_Goldman ! I appreciate all of your comments and opinions. I was leaning toward lowering the blue a little but I will leave as is!

Late the party on this but Definitely NOT TO BLUE. I love it. When looking at the thumbnail I thought I liked the first version you posted but the more I look at this one the more I like the depth that the background reeds provide. They look like they are almost glowing back there. I really like the left grass blade that reaches out and touches those background reeds and I love the near-identical framing that both of these grass clumps give you on the outer edges. Two verticle blades of grass on both side framing this shot. Super sharp also. That camera sure is impressive. I don’t even know if it’s a nit but that little thing in between the 2 grass clumps could be cloned out but it’s also kind of cool looking. All this to say that I prefer this image to your first image and I LOVED that image. Well done!!!

I concur with all said by others. So much to enjoy in the subject and composition. Perfect blue for me. The gradation of the blue-gray is very engaging to me. I scroll-cropped out about 40% of the sky, which to me seems to increase the quiet energy of the scene.

Hi Bill,

It’s been a while. Glad to see you are still making beautiful photographs. This one is just perfect as you presented it. The blue tone just gives a perfect sense of serenity, along with the mirror still water. Great work. I see you are not using the D2x anymore. How do you like MF digital?

Thanks you @David_Haynes, @Dick_Knudson, and @Youssef_Ismail for your comments!

Youssef, it’s great to hear from you! You’re correct, it has been a long time! Hope you’re well. I switched from the D2x several years back; switched to the D810. I just recently switched to the GFX, and I love it. I’m still learning the new system. After shooting Nikon for 40 years, it was culture shock to learn and shoot something different.
