Vortex

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

My wife called me from outside a couple of weeks ago when she saw an interesting cloud formation. This was just in a small area of a mostly clear sky. In all that blue, it looked pretty friendly, but it had the look of something a bit more menacing, so I tried to bring that out with some black and white processing and a lot of tonal adjustment.

Specific Feedback

Is there too much empty space on top? I really wanted to include the filaments coming in on the upper left, but it meant having a pretty empty upper right.

Dennis: This has an abstract feel that I find very appealing. Perhaps a small crop off the top to decrease the negative space just a bit but overall most excellent.>=))>

Dennis, this is quite the dynamic collection of clouds. The jet stream must have been roaring to create all those long “mare’s tales”. I’m with Bill in thinking that the upper right needs something. It looks like there may be some clouds there, so some darks dodging may work, also near the upper left corner. To push the drama a bit more, some darks burning in the bottom 1/3 would increase the contrast there.
