Description

A wonderful old eucalyptus tree seems poised to stride up the stony path to Box Head. Its base is thick and gnarled, merging seamlessly with the rocky terrain. The tree’s limbs, twisted and reaching, resemble the limbs of a creature ready to navigate the rugged landscape. The coloration of the bark, with its patches of reddish hues, stands out against the backdrop of greenery and stone. I feel so lucky to have walks in my backyard that are full of these amazing residents.

I love this @Saundie , I’ve walked past scenes like this but it’s always felt so difficult to capture, to 1) get enough of the tree in frame, 2) not have it tiny and 3) have a clear subject.

Great job spotting this one and composing with a wide lens. I like the way the branches tend towards being vertical at the top of the frame as well.

Maybe this was a weird export/upload issue, but viewed at 100% (3183×4229) this looks to me like it’s been upscaled a lot?

Hi Matt

Thanks for your feedback. No the image hasn’t been upscaled, it has however it has had a substantial crop. Here is the original image pre-crop. Can you please explain what you saw that gave the impression it had been upscaled, I’d appreciate knowing as I’d really like to avoid it in the future. Many thanks. :+1:

Hi Don! Maybe it’s JPG compression then, 1.1 MB for that resolution does seem small. For example the watermark looks a little fuzzy in this crop @ 100%:

Sorry for the red herring, I’m quite new to all this!

No worries Matt, I’d say is a combination of both the download and upload compression. Exported at 300dpi its tack sharp. Thanks for making me aware of it anyway, always good to know.

I like this image. It’s complex but not really chaotic. I like your approach here.

Thanks Igor, chaos is often a trademark of the Australian bush, isolating a subject can often be really challenging. Thanks again. :grinning:
