Weekly Challenge-Black Racer in Sago Palm

Image(s)

Image Description

Sometimes it just pays to look around your own backyard! I’m always away shooting in other locations, but happened to come home and my husband pointed out this beautiful Black Racer snake taking up residence in one of our Sago Palms at our home in St. Simons Island, Georgia. As it was November and the temperatures were starting to get cooler, the snake was using the palm bloom as a warming spot. The large female bloom of this particular Sago Palm had been providing natural cover for geckos and now this snake. The palm leaves were difficult to shoot through and I didn’t want to scare the snake so I stayed a safe distance and used an 800mm lens. I loved how the snake was just propping its head against a bloom shoot and how the photo captured the creamy nature of the greenery surrounding the snake.
