Description
The Everglades are a very unique environment. It can be intimidating but worth the effort. Just look over your shoulder now and then. Absolutely a great place to photograph.
This is nice, Alan. The sky is a little uneven, tonally. But that’s just the nature of a wide angle lens and probably a polarizer. Other than that minor nit, very nice.
Thank you! In the humid Everglades, the sky near the horizon looks white, while overhead it’s a clear blue. Hence the appearance of uneven tonality especially when converting to black and white. Eh. My opinion.
I love this photo! Black and white in the Everglades is tricky and you did a great job. I really enjoy the stand of trees and the way the clouds lead off into the distance. It reminds me a lot of Clyde Butcher’s work, he does a lot in the Everglades.
Thanks, Jay! I’ve visited Clyde Butcher’s galleries, attended his lectures, and highly recommend the “Swamp Walk” at his Ochopee Gallery. It was a life experience that I won’t forget.
Hi Alan,
The B&W conversion looks really nice as it has a nice range of tones. I also like the way the clouds seem to draw the viewer into this wide open landscape. For my own personal tastes I could see trying to lighten the sky towards the URC as it does look quite dark in relation to the rest of the tones in the scene. I also quite like the placement of that stand of trees here as well. Very nicely done.
I’m enjoying this one Alan. The range of tones makes for a good-looking conversion, and it does a nice job of showing off the Everglade’s flora. The cloud adds a lot for me, because it has a nice flow diagonal from the horizon and expanding as it moves up and left.
I like how the clouds spring towards you like that. If you cropped off half of the grass between the bottom and the closest bush/palm you could enhance that feeling. I’m always looking for cloud formations like this. I might dodge the darkest parts of the clouds there at the bottom. Nice picture.
