White Pelican

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

We saw this pelican in low evening light in our trip over the weekend. The water color is from reflected cypress trees in Fall color.

Specific Feedback

I like the contrast of the white pelican against the reddish water. How effective is that for you far an autumn scene?
I straightened the image using the shore then cropped. Wind was blowing hard enough to put some ripples on the water.

Technical Details

Canon R7, Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary
ISO 2500, f7.1, 1/2000s, Hand held from boat

Processed in DXO PureRaw 3 then Photoshop.

I love the unusual color of the water, Allen. I’m not sure about fall as I’m more used to a mix of yellows and reds, not ever having seen that part of the country. Nonetheless it’s a gorgeous image with the evening light on the pelican against the deep red water.

Nice light, good exposure on the Pelican, and lovely color of the water. Like the splash. Could see a tad more room on the left for the Pelican to land into.

This certainly says “Autumn” to me.
Really nice handling of the whites and fine detail. The unusual colour of the water really sets the bird off well.
