Image Description

One my way back from exploring a mountain pass I noticed the flowering moss along the trail. I was drawn to the lovely colors with the Columbia glacier in the background.

Any feedback welcome
I cropped in to reduce the dirt trail in the lower left corner. Wondering if the crop is a bit tight.

Pertinent Technical Details

Camera on the ground very close to the moss. 1/250, f11, iso100. 24mm on full frame.

The moss and the flowers are quite beautiful with nice color and detail.

This would have been a great candidate for a focus stack so that the mountains would be more in focus, but it may not have been possible.

That’s not a criticism, but just a thought for the future. This is a nice image that shows the contrast between delcate life and alpine peaks.

Bryan, the moss looks great (and is nicely framed). The softness and lack of color in the mountains and the glacier make a fine contrast to the moss. It would be interesting to compare this version with a focus stacked version, where I suspect that the rugged terrain in the distance might dominate the frame. This version lets the moss be the star.

Thank you for the feedback. I should have shot the extra frame for background and need to remember to do that for flexibility during processing. It was a long day and I shot this on the way down. I started my hike at 2am to reach outlook at 4 for 5am sunrise. I then explored a un-maintained trail through the pass. I was a bit tired after about 15km hike round trip with 500m elevation gain.

The foreground make or breaks mountain photos. “Put away the telephoto and get down on you stomach” – that’s what I try to remember. This one is just lovely, very well done.
