Wild Gardens

I was hoping for a grand landscape sunrise but was met with boring, cloudless conditions. From past experience I knew that the sage and brush in this location would backlit just after sunrise so I decided to hightail over and focus on some intimate details instead.

This spot looks quite familiar! Real nice take from the area. I am finding the reds up top a little toasty, but that is very much a personal preference. A very fine look at high desert vegetation.

Dave, this is a fine bit of “making lemonade”. The backlighting looks great. I too am thinking that the reds are a bit oversaturated. I find the blue/greens in the brush, lower right, especially attractive.

I love this as presented, Dave. The color comes out quite nice. I really like how the cyan, blue, and red comes together here. Super nice.

Dave,
I am really loving this as presented. Colors are a bit personal and I do not have experience with the location but they work well for me.
The sage in this light is just beautiful!

An intimate scene, and not a grand landscape from @Dave_Dillemuth ? The cable TV must have really gotten to you over those 36 hours you were cooped up

But seriously, it’s nice to see you try your hand at a small scene like this, it’s an interesting departure from the style of photography you usually present at NPN. I love the light and colors, it’s a real visual feast. The greens of the sage look absolutely luscious. I also think the processing is very effective. The cool shadow areas do a great job of creating a sense of depth by defining the shapes of the bushes.

I have to say that this is a most excellent Plan B, Dave. The back lighting is gorgeous and shows off all of the colors and details of the sage beautifully. The layers of color do a nice job of adding some depth to this intimate landscape. No suggestions from me.

Great call on the switch! Beautiful light and colors!

Thanks All.

Appreciate the comments/suggestions

@Harley_Goldman, @Mark_Seaver, thanks for the suggestion on the red sat. up top. I tried dialing it back a touch and think I prefer.

@Ed_McGuirk - Thanks. Yeah, not my normal style. No more intimate scenes from me, at least for a while ; o ).

I thought you did a great job with this small scene. I love your grand landscapes, but I thought this intimate was very sucessful. On bluebird sky days, better this than the motel room :grinning:

Beautiful, especially viewed large. I love it as is, but could see room for the saturation change suggested. I wouldn’t back off too far though, because color is a bit part of the story here.
