Winter Reflections

Image(s)

Image Description

I spent 5 days at Emerald Lake Lodge with Paul Zizka and Stacia Schmidt during the Elemental Photography Workshop. We were fortunate to get some snow the day before the workshop began, and also so dramatic light later in the week.

Life and loss displaced much of my creative drive in 2024, but this week was special. I hope you enjoy reflecting on 2024 through these images. I am looking forward to 2025 and making more effort.

Feel free to offer feedback on processing or cropping any of these differently. Some I have worked on a good bit. Others just have a bit of vibrance, contrast, sharpening, and that’s it.

Pertinent Technical Details

Just spectacular! I like the stillness in the water of each image, you captured a magical winter wonderland with stored away kayaks and cozy cabins!

Hi Marylynne, What a truly delightful set of images. Well seen and processed. I hope the new year kindles your creative flame, I’d enjoy seeing more of your work!

Marylynne, These are all outstanding images. Thank you for posting them. Glad you are posting, again. Hopefully, the new year will bring you happiness and a renewed desire to get out and once again enjoy the great outdoors (with camera in hand, of course). I look forward to viewing more of your wonderful images.

Marilynn, these are all just excellent! I guess - if I was to choose - the red canoe images and the first winter image would be my favorites.
Outstanding! I’m sure looking forward to what you see and capture in 2025!
Happy New Year!

What a lovely collection of images. I have really come to appreciate snowy winter scenes. Maybe it’s because it looks so pretty and clean, but we’d often rather be warm and safe inside. Maybe it’s the transient nature of it. Even if it stays around, it tends to shrink and get dirty as it sits there. Capturing it fresh is extra special. I love the reflections, the more abstract second image, and the color contrast with the red canoes and green trees.

Marylynne, definitely a fine collection. The opening view is one I’d hang and look at for years. The kiss of sun and bits of clear sky make for a magical view. I also really like the blueness of the next to the last view, with that fallen tree reaching across the chilly view.

So sorry 2024 had some challenges, but it all certainly came together with that workshop. I hope 2025 is full of life, but life and gain not loss. Looking forward to more of your wonderful views. Happy New Year!
