Description

Young Giraffe at Sunrise

Specific Feedback

This photo was taken well before sunrise while heading out for a game drive. I shot it wide enough from where I was to frame the giraffe by the trees., as the smaller bush was not that interesting. As such, do you think the giraffe is too small in the frame?

Technical Details

100-500 mm lens at 128mm, 1/30, f/4.5, ISO 2500 and -0.7ev

Beautiful scene - nothing neater, to me, than a perfect silhouette of a giraffe against a gorgeous African sunset. The giraffe is not too small in the frame, imo - just perfect.
My only suggestion would be to move the giraffe left a bit, to off-center him/her.
Very fine work!

Lovely shot Richard, I’m okay with the framing, I do regularly frame an animal to one side or the other as Sandy suggests but because of the balancing trees right and left I think that this central position works.
I would however consider taking about a third of the foreground away and then adding a small amount of detail to what remains. Currently I just have a block of black at the bottom of the picture (although it could be my screen)

Beautiful silhouette !
You may crop off about half the dark forground and go pano, if you like.

Beautiful silhouette Richard. It is gorgeous as is, but I can see more of a pano crop looking really great too.

Sandy, Ryan, J Rajput and Ed: many thanks for taking the time to look and comment. I’ve added a pano which is a very welcome improvement. Thanks again.

Richard, I like your original comp. Centering between the two big trees would’ve been my choice as well. There’s some nice balance there!

Maxz: thanks for having taken the time to look and comment. It is appreciated.
