The Egrets were just starting gather for the fall migration.

Is this a composite: No
Canon R5, Canon 100-500mm & 1.3Ext, f10, 661mm, -1.3EV, ISO 1000. The shot was cropped by 60% . In DXO Photo Lab 4 I increase the gamma to 1.2.
Peter, amazing that nearly all of them are preening in sync! To my eye the whites are fine, and this is more about composition. At first I thought maybe clone out the single bird at the back - no way, this one is the leader and they are all copying it! Thank you for sharing this exceptional image.
Peter, this is a fine pano of Egrets preening, with the one at the back being a fine change-of-pace in the viewing. The tall/short mix of egret species adds interest also.
