I woke up excited to see fog and knew I wanted to head to this bend in the Snohomish River near Everett, WA. I was hoping for sun beams streaming through the trees and fog, what I got was something different. As the sun rose above the Cascade Mts, the light warmed up the river and mist on the right. The left part of the image was still in shadow and remained cool. I cropped the image to remove much of the dead space above and below the trees for a more panoramic look.

A great atmosphere here; I love how the mist on both vertical sides almost turns the subject into an island. I thought it might benefit from a slight ACW rotation (adding a touch of canvas to the bottom); but there was a bend in the distant bank creating this effect, which is also interesting. Still, maybe add a touch to the bottom?
Heidi-this is such a nice photo. It’s simplicity makes it so effective. I can feel the silence you must have felt when taking the shot. I spent 23 years living in Mukilteo, and I remember how exciting it was when there was fog in the area.
Wonderful!! I love the mysterious appearance of the trees and the reflection, with a bit of mist on the surface giving a subtle horizon line, is so nice! The color gradient is a lovely bonus, and I love how all the edges are clean, providing a sort of negative frame to the elements of the image. Well seen and presented!
I didn’t get around to responding to your first post so I’ll add my welcome to NPN! I look forward to seeing more of your photography and hope you will find it as wonderful a place to hang out as I have!
Heidi, I agree that the color shift across the frame makes this view special. I think your pano crop fits the scene very well. Having the trees fade on both ends is a good touch as well.
