A stick for the nest (Great Blue Heron).

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This particular morning included rain and bright blue sky. I caught this heron returning to its nest with an ample sized stick. Clouds were just breaking up so there’s a hint of blue in the BG.

Specific Feedback

How do you like this comp? I was hoping to get a better image with a more dynamic wing position, but chose this one due to the best sharpness of the head.

Technical Details

The stick is positioned beautifully in this image, Jim. I really like the simple and very elegant lines of the composition.

Another great capture! Love that you caught the bird with nesting material.

Yes, this is very clean and simple and I like the high key effect. In fact, you might want to push the sky to almost pitch white and really make it a high image. Just a thought. The stick is great and the head feather adds a nice touch as well. Good wing position and great detail.

Hi Jim, this works well IMO. Nice lines on the bird with fine sharpness. Well done.

Amazing, Jim, how a simple stick can elevate an image and tell a story. Excellent detail in the heron as well.
