Description

Woke up to rain and gloom and the sun decided to pop out around 10am so off to the rookerie I went. I took about 1000 photos of great blue herons flying around and bringing sticks back to the rookery. The herons were collecting sticks from the forest floor in a nearby wooded area.

Specific Feedback

Clouds and high winds started before this image so I was left with a high key situation. What do you think about this one? Thank you for looking at this photo…Jim

Beautiful detail, Jim and I love the white background. It just shows off the subject so beautifully.

Very nice catch, Jim. Terrific comp, the lighting looks great on the bird. And the high key background helps the bird to stand out. Nicely done.

I agree with the white sky! It makes it a beautiful high key portrait, and there’s so much detail in the bird! I like that there’s no context, just the portrait.

The white background enhances the already excellent detail. A nice flying pose. For me, the sticks add a lot to the image and tells something of a story.

Hi Jim
This high key, works better than most. The Blue carrying back a stick for the nest, looks marvelous. The coloring, eye contact and feather detail is spot on. Nice work.

I’m late again but totally agree with the comments above – gorgeous detail in the subject, wonderful pose and behavior, perfect lighting, excellent against the white BG. 11/10!
