Acorn Takeoff

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I have a backyard population of acorn woodpeckers that come in for the food I put out. This male had been perched not far from some hanging bird seed. I’m okay with them as long as they don’t decide to live in our wooden house wall…

Specific Feedback

I cropped it with attention to the bird, and its stick with a nod to the direction it was flying. 'Bout right?

Great crop and great action Dave. Nice wing position and its coming slightly toward you. I think its great!

Hi Dave, nice catch and the crop looks good to me. I like the pose too with the upward wing position and a good look at the head. Nice angle towards us too as Ed mentions.

Good timing; the image gives a real sense of the bird taking off from the perch. Crop works with enough room to fly into.

Hi Dave
You managed to shoot a nice take off there. My only nit is the bokeh in the background. Is seems to be very busy.
Peter

Dave: very nice photo of the bird as it lifts off. You might want to tone down the background as it is quite busy.
