Aging Beauty

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I was out trying to photograph Goldfinches in the coneflowers a couple of days ago and failing miserably, so I started shooting some of the faded blooms-hence the 840 mm.

Specific Feedback

Too much stem? Too much room on top? Over saturated?

Technical Details

Sony A1, FE 200-600 + 1.4 TC @ 840 mm, f/9, 1/1000, iso 3200. Noise reduction with DxO PureRaw 4, processed in LR & PS CC. Cropped to 2184x3085. Adjustments to the tone of the shade and tone of the background and slight saturation and micro-contrast boost to the flower.

Dennis: It’s sometimes tough to make a good image from spent flowers but I think this works well. My only wish would be for a slightly less homogenous BG to confirm this was outdoors and not studio shot.>=))>

I think this is a nice image Dennis. I think the crop is really good. I like the detail and the colors of the flower. The BG is a bit homogenous as bill has pointed out.

Dennis, I had to laugh at this one - it’s just about what I felt like after a day of strenuous yard/garden work, then a Flu and Covid vax… spent and droopy.
Seriously, this is a cool image. The various complimentary colours work well with the BG, and the detail and comp is perfect.
I don’t think there is too much stem, since it’s so interesting, and the colours look great to me.
