Aging Wild Rose

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I was inspired by Jim Lockhart’s image of a decaying columbine to post this image of a wild rose about to lose all its petals. I do find the later stages of a flower’s life to sometimes be more interesting to photograph because of the story it tells.

Specific Feedback

It was an iphone image, but I thought it did a pretty good job. I guess I would just ask, does it tell the story?

Well, I was looking for a fresh image to critique and up popped yours, so glad I inspired you, lol. Cell phones can really record some impressive images nowadays and I love the colors displayed here; this old lady still has some hot pink to show off, and the green foliage compliments that nicely. The shriveled insides, with fallen pollen, tell the story of once glorious days in the sun, visited by myriad bees and other pollen seekers, as do the slightly wilting leaves. The surrounding little blue flowers speak of new life, so I would say, story told.

Ok. Now you got me going. Yeah, she’s like the old dowager queen being held aloft by the surrounding green leaves, and the subservient young things (bluebells) bowing around her….
I love stories
