Pertinent Technical Details

lost in space

David,

Great composition. I love how the waterfall is just peaking out from the fog among the trees. Unfortunately, there is a lot of digital noise among the trees. I wonder if some noise reduction might help. I have found that the Denoise option in ACR (or probably the same engine in Lightroom) does a good job of reducing noise, with out wiping out the details.

REPOST this is from original raw file

Was it raining at the time you made this photograph? The original RAW file seems to show some kind of diagonal streaks which I thought was digital noise but now makes me think it was raining. Also, what ISO setting were you using? Was this handheld?

Yes, it was raining. Yes, handheld.

Have to reckeck ISO

Digital noise reduction applied.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this!

The RP is my favorite, and the noise is very well-managed. You might warm it just a bit, but I wouldn’t go as far as the OP – it has a lovely ghostly quality!

David, I’m enjoying the colors shifts from water to trees in the repost. While the extra warmth in the original post shows off the trees well, I’m liking the blue and green tones in the repost better. They make for a cool, yet inviting scene. The water fal peeking through the trees is a fun extra benefit.
