First off I would like to wish everyone and their families a Merry Christmas along with a safe and joyous holiday. This one is an oldie but goodie; at least to me; as the last couple of winter excursions to WV have been a bust as far as capturing any wintertime scenes. This is a view of the Blackwater River in Blackwater Falls SP in WV. This particular trip was perfection as there was a decent amount of snowfall on the ground without being overwhelming; as well as the tree limbs being laden with snow. I particularly liked the graceful curving line where the last bit of open water was freezing over.

How much does the sky bother you? I tried to minimizze it without cropping to much of the treeline. Anything else you notice please feel free to mention it.

Ed: I love that sinuous channel down the river. Brrrrr . I’ve been spoiled by the sun belt and would much rather sweat than shiver but on the occasions I get to choose what cold I’ll experience I love finding scenes like this. The sky is a zero issue for me. If there was a lot more of it perhaps it would be a problem but I actually think this is just the right amount and contributes to the feel. Well seen and nicely captured and presented. >=))>
I agree with Bill about the sky, Ed. It adds to the sense of of a cold winter sky where light snow could fall at any time,
It might be an illusion, but it feels like it needs a Tony clockwise rotation. I don’t see it in the trees though, it might be the curve of the river throwing me off.
By the way, I love the title. Almost Frozen echoes the first line of the unofficial state anthem by John Denver.
Ed, this is a great winter scene. The long sinuous curve in the river makes a great pull into the distance. The snow covered trees look great. The sky fits the quiet, snowy scene well.
Thanks so much everyone @Gill_Vanderlip, @Bill_Fach, @Marylynne_Diggs, @Mark_Seaver and @David_Schoen for your thoughts on this image; always appreciated. The conditions on this trip were perfect. I am hoping to head out that way next month after the hip heals up; so fingers crossed on the snow conditions. @Marylynne_Diggs : I will play around with the rotation and see how it looks. Thanks for catching that about the title; I had not thought about that.
