The American Chestnut is a rare tree these days. In the early 1900s it was 20-30% of the forest in the East. Now only a few remain having thus far escaped the blight that killed millions of others. I’m fortunate to have planted two in the yard that are doing well—no guarantees—and are in a place where I can enjoy photographing the leaves, flowers and nut husks. These flowers had just fully opened—early July—and just radiate fresh and new! The bees go crazy for them.
