Excellent job on the exposure of the coot, Allen and I love the water and reed background.

Coots are everywhere, but they are still a pretty bird and a nice shot like this is till worthwhile. Neat BG, pose, and bit of reflection. Nice catch!
My little nephew called them “scoots” which is very appropriate!

Hi Allen,

These guys can be challenging to get the perfect exposure with light bill and dark plumage. You nailed this one–comp is fine and like the warm tones of the surroundings which help show off the coot. …Jim

Very nice work on the exposure, Allen. These are challenging subjects in less than perfect light and it is easy to blow out the beaks when exposing for the blacks. The rest of the colors are also very pleasant with the dried vegetation, and your composition is also appropriate.

You’ve done an exceptional job on the exposure. Blacks and whites handled so well. And beautiful complimentary colours in the background reeds.

A common bird here as well that I rarely photograph. There is so much unappreciated beauty in “common”.

Nice catch Allen in a fitting setting. Nice job on the exposure and details. Love seeing that red eye. Well done image.
