American Wigeon

I took this at a local wetlands where for some reason the birds were particularly tame. I was able to get quite close to the Wigeon and only took a small crop off the bottom. I took several shots of them in open water, but liked the environmental aspects of this shot despite a few strands of grass covering the duck.

I like it too! Wonderful detail on the feathers. The colors of the grasses are perfect for the duck, and they provide a good sense of place, which seems very appropriate. The visual mass nicely offsets the darker textured water on the left.

I’d do a little color correction on the bright bit of OOF grass just above the eye, and maybe tone down the one to its left – just a bit – but wouldn’t try to remove them.

I like the sharpness, Allen, and not bothered by the grasses, the eye managed to stay intact.

Superb job on the detail of this American Widgeon. The water reflections and the grasses add to the environmental quality. Nicely done.
