Rework to remove color cast. All I did was hit Auto Color
Critique Style Requested: Standard
The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
The barred owls were back at the state park wetlands area this morning. Thought I’d post another shot I got. This one cooperated and flew to an unobstructed perch.
Specific Feedback
I left in the branch on the right. Notice the robber fly on the rightmost extension. Think I should leave in the branch or take it out?

The stick is fine with me, Allen. Excellent detail n the owl. I don’t know if there’s a slight green color cast or if the owl had gotten it’s plumage a bit stained from all the moss, but it looks a bit greenish to my eye.
Thanks Dennis,
I thought so too about the green cast and reduced it some already. Maybe I should do another round.
Good job on the repost, Allen. It seems more natural to me. The branch is fine. Good detail and overall an excellent look at the owl.
Repost is good,Allen. Probably a lot of reflected green in that setting.
Hi Allen
Nicely framed Barred Owl. I took a stab at re-color balance in DXO and B&W in Nik 7 Silver Efex
Peter
Hope you are ok with it.
@Peter_Morrissey , Thanks Peter. I really like the black and white version. The color one looks a tad pinkish to me.
The habitat is heavily wooded/green leaves with a green channel of water acting like a green reflector below. Thus the green cast. I saved both of my versions to show what I actually saw and also the color corrected version. I’ll have to consider a black and white too.
Nice pose and I don’t mind the stick at all. Love the rework! :).
Hi Allen
I tried using the white balance tool to rebalance the overall color temp. I had the best luck on the left eye. But as you can see, it didn’t work.
Peter
The bar owls are really nice. Good job in the detail and color repost. I’m sure pretty jealous of where you live. You clearly have one of the best locations for avian photography. But unfortunately, for me, there’s not going to be much travel until I can get some of this Parkinson’s stuff under control
