Arctic hysteria

The old picture was taken with an 8Mp crop camera. There is quite a lot of noise and the colors are minimal. This has been quite difficult to deal with as I haven’t known which colors fit or are right

My Edit

Beautiful image Jorma, and I like the strong contrast and colours in your edit. I took the image on a different path and made it a lot softer.

Thanks for sharing this, it was a lot of fun to edit!

Oh, I like the RAW file almost as is! The softness and open feeling of the landscape is very calming. To that end, I kept things close to the RAW file (even softer than Tom), and did minimal processing (all in ACR). Warmed it up a bit, brightened a bit, and brought up the shadows (to make the dark plants in the foreground less eye-catching. I also cropped to a 16:10 ratio, off the bottom, again to lessen the impact of the dark plants.

  • Reduced noise.
  • Adjusted temperature to 5700 (from 4850), tint to 0 (from -3), just a bit warmer.
  • Made parametric curve adjustments - highlights +42, lights +27, darks -23, shadows +32.

Thanks Tom and Bonnie for the nice suggestions. I probably have post-productions like that and a hundred other different ones. Some pictures are damn difficult and you can’t get into them except sometimes by accidentally
