Arctic Tern Splash-In #1

A whole flock of Arctic Terns were playing, bathing and just having fun in a shallow pool of water in the middle of a field of gravel near the waterfront. I got lots of shots of the action & this is just one of them. This Arctic Tern was unusual though as it had lots of white feathers on it’s head and even the normally black feathers were quite light. Everything else was typical of a normal Arctic Tern. so I know it wasn’t another species of tern but I wouldn’t rule out a cross breed.

A very dynamic image.

Excellent detail and action. I am enjoying the composition. I have Caspian Terns in my area but they rarely get close enough to get this level of detail.

Hi Gary
Nice looking Arctic Tern, with good control of the blacks and white feather. I can even see the Tern’s eye.

A great landing pose for this tern, Gary. The far wing seems rather grayish. I wonder if a curves layer on the bird pulling the brighter tones up would make it pop a bit more.
