I like the scene and the sky is beautiful. But nevertheless, there is too much sky for me.
The tones in the sky are in line with the grey tones in the mountains and there is a nice contrast with the blacks in the low islands. But the mountains and the islands are a bit overwhelmed by the sky. I tried a HDTV 16:9 crop, but even then I had the feeling that I need to crop more. Something like this.

Hi Leo, Thanks for sharing this beautiful moment of light with us. I find the clouds quite stunning. I don’t feel the image needs much cropping, at most the sliver of sky above the clouds, but no more. Well seen and processed.

I’m with Han. Too much sky.

Thanks for your comments on the sky, they are very useful. I’ll definitely try out your suggestions, print alternative versions of the image and evaluate these alternative renderings.

Leo, this is a striking scene with drama both in the sky and in the land/sea. It’s great how the small amount of land match textures and drama with outstanding sky. I do think the the bit of clear sky at the top is not adding anything. I also think that a subtle burning-in of the distant mountains, particularly on the left, would let them play a stronger role in the viewing.

Hi Leo,
This is a wonderful B&W scene with a wide range of tones. I could see the case for making this a pano, but my thoughts echo those of @guy as I personally find the clouds very striking and would hate to lose them. It’s always nice to have options though. I would crop the sky above the top layer of clouds though. Here is a rework with what I was thinking.

@Mark_Seaver, thanks for your comment — I had not considered burning the distant mountains, but now I’ll look into it.

@Ed_Lowe , thanks for your comment and reworking. I’ll surely reconsider the sky.
