At the holly tree

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

My wife and I are stuck at home after a winter storm dumped ice and snow on Memphis. We aren’t used to such things. Anyway, I looked out the front window this morning and saw birds starting to fly into our holly tree. A mixed flock of robins and cedar waxwings came in for the berries.

Specific Feedback

Any comments appreciated.
In this situation, I always find it a challenge to catch decent poses with some separation on the bird.

These are absolutely beautiful Allen. While I don’t have the original RAW files, the post-processing work to me is just enough - not over sharp, not over saturated. Just brings out the distinct details and color of the bird. What I also like are the poses. They are unique and not the typical pose (i.e., portrait of a bird on a branch) - especially the first two. It’s also nice to see the bird posing with the food in their mouths as well. Congratulations!

Even cold and snow has its benefits, Allen. There are some birds I only see when it snows. These are all excellent images. I think the first is my favorite, but the robin is a pretty close second.

Allen: What beautiful creatures and superb captures and results. Almost makes me want to go sample some holly berries myself except that they don’t agree with humans! I guess that’s a good deal for the birds. Wonderful work. >=))>

Wow. These are tremendous, Allen. Watching and waiting for the right moment is so important and bringing the skill to present them each perfectly. I don’t know as I have the patience to develop what you make look so easy. Great light and engaging behavior, too. The birds are nicely framed and stand out well from the environment and background. Excellent work.

Excellent, Allen. The sharpness of the wings and tail feathers is fantastic-and to get it with the berry. I find the Robin composition very pleasing.
