Description
Te Anau, South Island, New Zealand
The Australian magpie is a passerine native to Australia and southern New Guinea.
It’s quite common in New Zealand, but difficult to catch as it is very skittish.

I have a family of maggies visit everyday. They sit on our back deck and warble the most beautiful songs. I would never have thought they were skittish.
You’ve mangaged to capture the birds’ beautiful black and white patterns. It’s a lovely dynamic pose.
There’s a few blocky blacks, that could be easily fixed.
Cool landing pose, Sandy. It really shows of the plumage as @Richard_Sandor mentioned. I suspect the degree of skittishness depends on how they’ve been treated historically.
I like the BW patterns present and my only suggestion is to try to pull some more details from blacks of the wings. Very dynamic look and you captured the motion perfectly…Jim
HI Sandy
I am loving the interest birds you are showing us. The Magpie is well framed and has good control of the whites, it just looks a little soft on my IMac.

Thanks, people - detail and sharpening added and re-posted.
My computer croaked and I had to buy another one in NZ (thank God for good exchange rates) and I’m still trying to get it calibrated and set up with the PS/editing programs. ick.
