Australian Sea Lion

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

We had the pleasure of seeing a bigish colony of sea lions on Kangaroo Island. The only way to see them was with a guide for safety reasons; for us and them. They were quite magnificent and I managed a few decent shots.
On our way back to our campsite, about 15 klms from the colony we stopped to take photos of the rugged coast line. I almost died when this pup stuck his head up from behind the little dune. He stayed, watching me intently until his very big mother appeared. We quickly retreated.
We reported the mother and baby to the rangers just so they could keep an eye out for them. It was odd for them to apparently be alone.
Commercial harvesting that occurred in the 1800’s has taken a toll on their numbers. They have not bounced back. They are at a high risk of extinction.

Cute!! He makes me think of one of those ground squirrel type things poking his head up from his burrow. Excellent detail, light and environment.

What an encounter, and what a sad story of their prospects. Glad your prospects survived a large protective mother!

Sweet little critter!
Seal eyes are so compelling…
Really nice detail and poses - love it!

Cute subject, I prefer the first one ! The compostion works fine and rock doesn’t disturb me as the colour palette is almost same.

Thank you all!

I like the pose in the first one the best, Glenys. And, the setting is quite pleasing; I like the soft background.

Considering the quality of the images here, I must admit, I am very chuffed at the EP! Thankyou.

Congratulations of the EP!! I’m delighted to see you back here!

Awesome photo and Congrats. Impressively cute and glad that you were able to capture this with your camera. Comp and techs are spot on!..Jim

Aaahhh… this little guy is just soooo cute. I like the second shot best. The eye contact connects the cutie with the photographer/viewer. Personally it makes me want to go over to him and give him a hug. Beautiful… and congratulations on the EP!
